Cape Town’s Mountains from Lou’s point of view

“I grew up in Switzerland and I therefore have always adored mountains.”

Meet Lou Zagagnoni, our intrepid Travel Expert.

Last week I drove one hour out of Cape Town to experience the Cape Canopy Tour experience on behalf of Travel By XO. Based on an idea from Peru, this activity was opened in 2015 and was designed by the engineers from around the globe. It features 13 platforms linked by impressive cables on which guests are invited to slide on to go from one part of the mountains to the other.

Canopy tours have become a breathtaking eco-tourism activity

At first I thought this would be an adventure activity but I was very wrong: the slide is soft and allows you to watch the incredible and pristine surrounding the cables are set in. Like an eagle, you will fly over waterfalls, large rock formations, proteas opening and feel the unique air of the mountain against your cheeks. It was overwhelming to access such hidden treasures that my non-professional-hiker legs could have never gotten me to. This four-hour experience will allow adults and children from the age of 5 to discover the Fynbos kingdom, this unique plant biome only found in the Cape, from the sky and from the earth when on the platforms.

A unique opportunity to discover the Cape Fynbos kingdom.

It is a unique moment which is even bettered by highly trained locals proudly looking after your safety while showing off their beautiful region. I encourage you to do like me and let yourself happily slide as you make lifelong memories of the incredible Hottentot Mountains.
